I’m Harry and I’m a professional Tattooer based in Christchurch, New Zealand. 

So why AIYOtattoo? What does it mean? Aiyo is an expression of surprise. It can express pain, delight or any number of other feelings. Tattooing is inherently a  somewhat painful process, it is also a way to express your inner self or create a lasting mark representing anything you can imagine. Aiyo! Tattoos can be so amazing. Aiyotattoo was born as an instagram handle when I started my tattoo journey, it rolls off the tongue nicely and the name has stuck ever since!

 

I have been Tattooing in a Studio environment for six years. Prior to that, I have a background in illustration and hand engraving, which have both influenced my approach to tattooing. The flair, artistry and composition of illustration, and  the precision, patience and delicacy of  hand engraving both bring something a little special to the tattooing process . I provide a friendly professional experience from the initial consultation right through the design process, the actual application of the tattoo, and equally important, the aftercare. I am capable of tattooing a variety of styles, and enjoy creating unique tattoos, and pleasant memorable experiences for my clients. 

 

If you pushed me to choose a favorite style of tattoo, I’d be pretty torn. I enjoy creating larger pieces that fit and flow with the body, full of technical detail and shading. But I also enjoy small, playful, light hearted designs. My portfolio probably shows this, it is nice to have variety!

 

Tattoos don’t always have to be super serious, they can be silly little surprises that make people chuckle, a piece of art that makes you smile, or a souvenir to help you remember a life well lived. While I do like the look of old worn tattoos that have aged and lived with a person. It’s not the old tattoo, but the vividly remembered stories and memories that are attached to it that make it truly spectacular! Sure, maybe in 20 years time that nice fresh tattoo isn’t going to look so fresh, but it is still a nice reminder of the places you have been and the things you have done. 

 

As you can probably tell, I’m pretty passionate about tattoos and tattooing! It is something that has allowed me to make a life for myself that I can be proud of, and something that brings me great joy almost every day.  But more importantly it is something I can share with my clients!
